Every skipper has scraped a gelcoat backing into a tight gap. Here you can practise until it's second nature, before it's your charter deposit on the line. Boat Docking: Captain Vasko is a top-down docking simulator. You stand at the helm of a cruising yacht and bring her stern-to, alongside or through a swing bridge into harbours along the Croatian coast, with a real wheel, a throttle lever, a bow thruster and the wind always working on the boat. REAL BOAT HANDLING • The boat carries momentum, drifts downwind when stopped and loses rudder grip as speed builds • Prop walk kicks the stern to one side when you go astern, so you plan every turn • Gusts push the bow, currents carry you sideways, and shallow water can scrape your keel • Instruments show heading, speed, wind, depth under the keel and rudder angle ELEVEN HARBOURS DOWN THE ADRIATIC Start with two calm warm-up berths, then work your way through Luka Prvić, the old Submarine bunker, Punat, Sali Port, Hramina Murter, Biograd na Moru, Marina Piskera, Dubrovnik, Osor's swing bridge, Komiža and Marina Palmižana. Each harbour adds something new: a crosswind, a river current, a narrow channel, a corridor one boat-length wide. CHOOSE YOUR CONDITIONS Dock in a flat calm while you learn, then turn the wind up to light, moderate or strong. If you want more time at the helm, the captain offers two extra practice berths.
