Send four things and you get the eligibility answer back in writing

There is no account to create and no card taken at this step. The eligibility read is free; the 149 is only for the filled-in packet, and only if the answer is yes.

Email these

1. The county and court the case was heard in.
2. The charge as written on the paperwork, and whether it was a misdemeanour or felony.
3. The disposition — convicted, dismissed, no bill, diversion — and the date.
4. Whether fines, costs and restitution are paid in full, and whether anything is pending against you now.

Do not send documents or identification yet. Those four lines are enough to tell you eligible, not eligible, or eligible on a given date.

Then what

If it is a yes, I send the packet for your court and an invoice for 149. If it is a no, I tell you why and which route is left — often the free clinic or a waiting period that has not run yet. Either way you get the answer.
